sports exhaust

i would like to ask if the sports exhaust is the same as a standard exhaust with the silencer removed. i was going to get a sports exhaust but they are no good for urban driveing, ive managed to pick up a ss bomb box some people call them bullet box,im going to cut the old silecer off and have the bomb box welded on.as a result i will be getting a sound some where between the sports and standard exhaust daren any one have any ideas
