Wiesmann GT given Power Boost
New engine means MORE POWER!
The Wiesmann GT is a popular car here at the office, mostly because it’s tiny, looks great and goes like the proverbial off a shovel. But it’s all going to change soon…
We’ve heard that the current engine (the Last M5’s 362bhp V8) is on its way out. What are they going to replace it with? The 507bhp V10 from the current M5.
That’s a 148bhp power hike for a car that weighs the same as a packet of smoky bacon crisps. It’s going to be even more of a little rocket than it was before.
Expect 0-60 times in the mid to low fours and a stupidly stratospheric top speed.
If we can get our hands on one, we’ll let you know how it is…

It's a really sexy car IMO, plus there's exclusiveness to it!
I read BMW wouldn't give them the V10 in the first place, but then Wiesmann said they would then have to bolt a supercharger on the M3 engine.
I just hope this won't make the Wiesmann vulgar, because until now there's something delicate to it.

Hmmm, the M5 engine will make it quite expensive I think.
Predicatable comment alert...
Why don't they just use a GM LS2/LS3/LS7? They're all 30-40kg lighter, and the LS7 (at least) is significantly more powerful through the rev range than the BMW V10. I can't imagine even the LS7 will cost as much as the BMW V10.
But then, this idea would probably be met with as much patriotic disdain from German Weissmann fans as the same suggestion did for TVR.

these machines look much better in the metal. I saw the first ones in Germany back in 2000 and the craftsmanship was amazing. Morgans are nice but these are nicer.
Anyone driven one?
Yep, went with a friend to visit the factory. Very much a like it or love it kind of car. He loved it, and bought one.Anyone driven one?
The people there were very friendly, something common amongst the small car manufacturers, they create this family enviroment. As we were shown around our guide, the PR and Marketing man, talked about the story of each of the cars they had there, and gave a little background to how the customers came to customise their cars.
Personally not too keen on the looks, but who cares when you have a V8 strapped to a light chassis. Not that I got alot of time in the car, but is was damn fun!!
The company has in the past raced in the VLN and 24hr at Nurburgring. They use these events to test their cars, being so small they don't have the luxury of vast testing budgets the bigger boys have.

I guess using the BMW engine makes it a bit more exclusive, every man and his dog seem to have a yank V8 powering their backyard supercar these days, plus they obviously have some sort of deal with BMW going on previous history. Predicatable comment alert...

Mr Weissmann, was I think, an ex employee of BMW. The V8 and V10 are fantstic engines, the V10 is a technological tour de force, something that can't be said for some of the yankee lumps.. Not that they don't perform their job well. Plus the layout of the car is based around the shape of BMW's engines and transmission. To change the motor to another supplier would cause huge dificulties, and extra cost!
Some other friends were lucky enough to be given both a roadster and a GT to use for a film. It will be a couple more weeks befor anything is released, but keep an eye on www.supercarmovies.com it's only new, but already a couple of things to look at.

The LS7 is quite impressive, unless you have an obsession with specific output (which is irrelevant, since it makes no positive contribution to the driving experience). What is an engine for other than "performing it's job well"? You can't sit in it or have sex with it (or at least I wouldn't recommend it).Ah well, your point is proven though, in as much as anti-American techno-bigotry would likely cost Weissmann sales

No he wasn't: Martin Wiesmann was an engineer working on pumps and compressors, and daddy ran a dealership for Lancia & Fiat. Friedhelm Wiesmann did something with commerce and childrens clothing. Some other friends were lucky enough to be given both a roadster and a GT to use for a film. They generated working capital by selling custom hard-tops, and leaped into the roadster market in '93.
