chaps, a quandry,

v early this morning I was driving in central london,pulled into a street & gave it a little bit, ie hard acceleration but pretty sure didnt break the limit.

Suddenly saw a figure on my left do a kind of slow down motion, thought it was a security guard as was just in plain black, acknowledged with a small wave & carried on.

Drove back past later, think with hindsight it was a police officer. Question is, if he was trying to pull me & I didnt stop, what will happen next?

I passed other police in the car after that & nothing happened.

Should I go back & ask him? Its near my office.

Sounds like he was just gesturing you to slow down.

Waving his hands around won't be the signal to pullover.

I'll check highway code in a second but I'm 99% sure that a policemena (or, importantly, someone with authority to stop a car so includes customs and people like that too) must use a flat face of hand pointing directly at you. It is a very obvious gesture so you'd not be confused by it.

Yup; this culturally diverse, ethnically and politically correct picture shows it properly;

I think had it been a police officer and he wanted to "'ave a word" then you would have been in no doubt!!

He was probably waving in appreciation!

i half expected to get home & find bib waiting, which would have made me laugh as when someone was trying to break into my house while gf & babyson were inside it took the bib 3 hours to get there, hilarious.

I got stopped once for not stopping.

When I said I didn't know as I didn't see the person who asked me to stop (side of the road), they agreed it wasn't clear and let me go. (I remember it being strange at the time as once they stopped me for not stopping they never spoke to me about whatever it was they wanted me to stop for in the first place! smile )

Probably intended to indicate some sort of cross dresser. Equal opportunities, diversity...... etc etc
