Don't panic, I'm not of to swap the RO' for one!!

But I have rented a convertible for a road trip round the western USA next month (honeymoon), and what I'd like to no is will I fit a suit case in the boot/trunk with the roof up or down.

It would be a shame to do the trip with a case on the back seat.

Anyone know ??

Cheers all,

Stig

I rented a Mustang convertible in NYC back in January, and the boot was plenty big enough for one suitcase (although obviously a squishy bag gives you more wiggle room).

I have to ask though, how did you find a woman prepared to share ONE CASE on a honeymoon? Is this a "civil partnership" with another man?

Perhaps he's not taking any luggage for himself.....except may be a bar of soap (it being a honeymoon an'all!) wink

No worries about the size of the boot. I drove one round the States last month and we had two big bags (although one was a 'squashy' one).
You should be more worried about the way it handles, like a galleon on high seas, and the brakes need both feet on the pedal to get it to stop!! yikes

LOL, She's definatly all woman pleased to say!!

Thanks all for the info, can I assume your reply's refer to boot space with the roof down?

Our intention is to take one hard suitcase, and a large squashable wheelie bag plus a couple of smaller bags as hand luggage. Course she wanted more but I didn't want to higher a suburban or similar.

As for the handling, I've never found a requirement for a car that does handle in the states!!, but no doubt I'll be looking forward to the qualities of the RO' when I get back.

Any further info on boot size appreciated cheers all,

We rented a previous generation Mustang convertible in California a couple of years ago.

We had:
1x large "hard" suitcase
1x overnight wheelie suitcase (type that just fits in overhead locker on plane)
2x smallish squashy backpacks.

All fitted (just) in the boot. Don't think the hood impinges on boot space when it's down either.

Wouldn't suprise me if the '05 Mustang boot (sorry, trunk) is even bigger.

Twin Turbo's assessment seems about right for the 06 Mustang I had. "Trunk" space was not affected by roof down.

I think the Hertz Mustang I rented was a cooking 6 cylinder job. The right hand pedal made great sounds, but didn't much affect the speed. I felt a bit silly driving a light blue Mustang convertible in Manhattan in January, but then my passenger was male (wife was elsewhere shopping) so it probably looked about right biggrin

I really wanted to rent a Corvette (Z06 preferably) but couldn't find anything easy - all the supercar rental places seemed to want me to sort out my own insurance.
