I have a 6.0VXR, and want to improve the grip at the rear. The 'Fighting Torque' event sealed the case for me as the grip was so poor at the back - all that power and couldn't put it down.

I have read some of the previous threads on tyre sizes, but the option of moving to 255's at the rear seems to have a couple of drawbacks:
1. Its a bit questionable insurance wise.
2. It reduces the clearance (I have to load the car up once a year for family holidays).
3. I am not sure what would happen if I fit coil over suspension later

My other thought is therefore to simply fit some higher grip level tyres at the rear than at the front, and accept that they will need replacing more often.

Vredetein Ultrac seem to fit the bill, high grip road tyres and cheap enough to replace regularly. Maybe leave the Pirelli's at the front.

I don't want semi slicks as they are too risky in the wet, but has anyone tried high grip tyres just on the rears and what did you think ? Any particular combinations work for you ? Other thoughts welcome.

That's fun admittedly, but getting beaten off the line by an M5 isn't !!

I find the gearing is the biggest problem. Below 100mph most 200bhp+ hot hatches/3.0 litre diesels can keep up. It's over 100mph the Ro keeps accelerating, leaving them behind...by which time the plod has clocked you or it's time to slow down! I'm hoping the (9 psi) SC will light the tyres up and scare me in the way I want otherwise I'm going to have to alter the diff ratio.

I found TOYO T1R Proxes to be adequately sticky, more so than the Pirelli's, especially when cold. You DO of course have the pay off of a shorter life... but I can live with that for better traction in the dry, and acceptable wet weather performance.

Am not convinced that the Monaro will ever make a great 0-60 time although I beat a couple of cerb's.

In the real world I never use launch control, most of the time it's 2nd or 3rd and in the dry with the slightly larger tyres i rarely get wheelspin.

A Monaro running 9psi - don't think it will be found wanting. Even if it is a 3.91 diff will not be the answer although the 3.91 is probably the answer if you want a cost effective way of going quicker without the SC.

Had to laugh today, was overtaking a lorry at full chat, car in layby had some woman looking at me open mouthed.......

Can anyone confirm that higher PSI = more noise?
