Knob problems...... no the other kind!
Discussion
hi Guys,
How do you get the milled aluminium knob off in a 96 griff?
I am trying to replace the gearstick gaiter, but need to remove the ball to get it in place. The bible mentions that the lower part of the knob is a locking nut, but does it come off? have been trying all sorts of things to get the knob to unscrew, but wont budge an inch!
any help appreciated.

I've got my knob on the desk here in front of me
No, no, wait.
I can tell you there's nothing odd about the thread in the knob. You are aware its a 2 piece jobby aren't you, and you have to undo the 'stem' that holds the gaiter downwards before trying to unscrew the knob.
I hope you don't mind if I add a question or two to this thread then, since we've got all the knob experts in one place
Can you do anything to get little scratches and dinks out of the knob
Is there a replacement bit for the thing on the top that tells you where the gears are on an LT77 box. I trust the early ones just had this rather than it being machined in like the later ones with the T5 box but mine is blank.

No, no, wait.

I'll avoid pointing out all the obvious jokes but they are there.....Is there a replacement bit for the thing on the top that tells you where the gears are on an LT77 box. I trust the early ones just had this rather than it being machined in like the later ones with the T5 box but mine is blank.
I thought about removing marks after mine dropped off and rolled down the drive while I was cleaning the Gaiter, if you tried to polish it it means your hand flies off it (oh matron) and using fine emery paper would leave uneven marks unless the marks are very superficial. I think the best way would be to get a friendly engineering company to mount it on a threaded bar and give it a fine machine in a lathe.
Can't help you with the markings...

Leven (If you like the design) had their's on offer at the Growl for £40 and she said that this batch had lower unit cost as they'd ordered more so they could sell them cheaper

Fine emery to remove scratches then a good polish then get it anodised back to silver...probably cost you a tenner or a couple of beers at a local platers...
