Collected my Cerbera today and had a great run in brilliant weather from Devon back to London. http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=428399

My face is still aching from the grin overload. Unfortunately once I got it home I stopped grinning. The doors were being a bit eratic in the several stops we made. Sometimes dropping the window sometimes not, occasionaly the door refused to open on the button. When I got home I unpluged the Door & Window Controler in the hope of resetting it. Bad move. Now neither the doors not the windows (which worked fine before!) will work so I assume the box is dead. I daren't close the boot because I have no way of getting it open again if I do!

Does anyone know if these boxs can be repaired or anywhere I might be able to get a replacement in a hurry?

Any suggestions gratefully received!!!

Welcome to the world of Cerbera ownership.

As for the boxes, don't Clever Trevor do "service exchanges" on some of them?

Also www.bellhillgarage.co.uk advertise that they've got some second-hand TVR electronics available.

They might be worth a try.

Thanks Ireland - I will give them a try in the morning.

Which kidney do I have to sacrifice to be initiated into the "secret way" into the car? As I didn't buy from a TVR dealer the seller didn't know, and I would really like to be able to close the boot as the car has to sit on my drive tonight.

If anyone can tell me how to get it open again (in PM) I can easily scan and email proof of ownership etc first.

Drop me an email.

Meanwhile - it's probably something simple.

Have you put the plugs in the right way around?
Here's what mine looks like:

You need to leave them unplugged for a good 30secs to 2 mins just to be sure.
When you do - I've found that if you lock the car (so the windows shut fully) then unlock it, when you reset the box the windows are set for the correct position.

This really sounds like dirty connectors on the plug inside the door. Mine were badly corroded and took ages to clean up.

If the door doesn't open from the button sometimes, is it just the drivers door, try the passenger one, or theinside button or outside button? If it's inside, wind down the window and try the outside one to isolate if it's the circuit or the individual button.

I think the control box is actually more reliable than people think. I think it's mostly dirty plug connections or dirty/corroded switches causing most problems.

Button switches are about £5 from RS and easy to change.

Also wip off the door cards and check the connections of all the wires. A small amount of corrosion can cause all sorts of nightmares!

Mine did mad things due to the read sensor being out of adjustment, use a magnet to replicate the effect of the magnet in the sill. I adjusted this to close the gap and all was good!

A certain amount of success!!! I opened up the control box for a looksee as the sockets had been shifting when I pluged it back in. There are two curcuit boards inside connected by a short length of stiff ribon cable and a couple of (broken!) plastic supports. Obviously the top board had shifted and the ribon cable had a dry joint. A quick re-solder and viola! Doors and windows now work erraticaly rather than not at al.

Next step clean and check all the connections and adjust the sensors.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, much appreciated.

I must be dim or blind - I cant find a magnet in the door sill or anything that looks like a sensor to adjust in the door. trouble is I dont actualy know what I am looking for. Any chance of a pic or a detailed description? Thanks.

The magnet is built into the sill and the switch is on the door itself, its on the lower edge and a 8mm AF nut if I recall.
It needs setting so there is a small gap I used a couple of sheets of paper as a feeler gauge to set mine.

Thanks Matt!

I am not mad - well not as mad as I thought! The passenger door does not have a reed switch (the drivers door does!) - in its place is a pushbutton. The glass goes back up once the button has been pushed and released - pushing and holding does nothing. It seem to have been adjusted so that if you slam the door hard enough it bumps against the sill and releases - operating the window. If you dont shut the door hard enough - nothing!

Where did I put my RS Components catalogue...

As a 96 car it may not have a magnet type proximity switch but conventional (VW) door switch plungers at the base of the doors, mine has and I've had them apart recently for similar issues biggrin.

Thanks Adrian - I have some better pics of it now but will start a new thread as the combination of resoldering the internal cable in the control box and soldering the joints inside the door (that the PO made by twisting the wires together and wraping in sellotape!!), seems to have cured most of the door/window problems.
