80's sports bikes
Discussion
So lemme just start by saying I have no riding experience and am looking into getting into it. Now ive always been a fan of the late 80's era sports bike and am not looking for anything totally bonkers but just something that a blast to ride around on.
Im looking at either getting one of the following; gsx-r, ninja, cbr hurricane, ninja, or fzr. Ill be honest, i really dont know shit about these bikes but ive always loved that era of sports bikes. Any useful info/advice out there for the ph massive on my selection of bikes and getting into riding in general? Thanks in advance!

Mmm...where would i start...two strokes would be my first choice...RD500,RG500 , NS400...then maybe a nice 350LC, a non powervalve model, just a bit purer IMHO
Four stroke wise id say a GPZ900 or an early model GSXR750, not the slingshots that came in from 88...unless you can run to an RC30??
Hurricane? Dont go all american on us will ya...cant say an early CBR600 would float my boat(and i had one)
A GPZ600 would be a more interesting and much nicer looking thing to own.
the main thing you have to consider is spares ,the lack of availabilty and price being a real PITA
Some fairing and engine parts are no longer available for a lot of these models, which is why you see people paying silly money for the most minor parts...of recent £250 for a NS400 mirror and £185 for a horn bracket for a 350LC come to mind..
Also bear in mind that a lot of these bikes will be utterley shagged and will take some time and money to get them up to anywhere near the performance/handling they had from new.

I`d go for 86-90 GSXR 750...oil cooled so simple, reliable, fast & plenty of spares...everything else will be more tricky to sort if you need to piss about with old buggered water pipes/radiators/juby clips etc..
Expect to spend a bit on wheel bearings, chains, pads,& a few seals which by this age are usually in need of a makeover in terms of getting the machine to work as it should when it was released.
If you do go the watercooled IL4...I like the Kawasaki ZXR 750 H1/2`s...future classics....The CBR 600/750 range is a tad common for me but it`s because they work so well.
Have fun choosing....
