Most recent sagaris engine problems
Discussion
Thought it would be interesting to find out the most recent engines to have had problems requiring rebuilds and why, im having mine rebuilt to "07 spec" and trying to get an idea of just how sturdy this may be and if the newer engine may well be 'sorted'
I have not seen any posts with sags/tuscan 2's requiring rebuilds (plenty vids on youtube of them getting thrashed though)
anyone got any info?
cheers
Graham

Ive only heard of one Sagaris (out of maybe 130 ish?) having a big end bearing go quite early on in its life...this belonged to one of the car hire clubs, so no doubt it had been ragged from day one and never had its oil checked
Ours is going strong (touch wood!) - 19K miles since Mar 2006, low oil consumption and good power etc...

Graham,
What eaxctly is a 2007 spec engine. The factory did not build any 2007 engines. If its an engine builders own spec, it will be dificult to compare with the last batch of factory built engines.
i dont think its anything particularly special, just the most recent/best parts that tvrpower get their hands on, i dont know if or how they differ to 05 or 06 factory engines but i assume there are some things changed before they offer 2 year gaurentee'sWhat eaxctly is a 2007 spec engine. Without being too personal, what kind of price is an 07' rebuild coming in at? Is it more than an 05 or 06' rebuild, which I suppose could be due to higher value components being used.
Depends how honest the builder is. Truth be known, too many TVR "specialist" engine builders out there at the minute want to retire from a weeks work - all on the back of enthusiasts...Sad but all too true.Hmmm, some of the figures being quoted for rebuilds do seem a bit heavy. Although, I will confess to not having the slightest clue about how much the raw components cost on there own.
Would be quite tempting to buy a knackered S6 and have a go myself just to see what all the fuss is about. Can't be any harder than the last engine I did (Hillman Imp 875cc) surely??????

Many posts back someone from the factory (a lady if I remember correctly) pointed out that 125 Sags had been produced and 5 had been written off, plus the Silver one that appeared in a few mag reviews with normal rear exiting exhausts, Sparco seats and plastic indicator stalks making 126. Is this the only example of a catastrophic Sag engine failure?
Mine's at 12K and, by all accounts, been treated to track miles throughout its entire life - it's with Dom at the moment being checked out after 2 hours being hammered at The Rock but from what I hear is in rude health.
