I often have a little chuckle to myself when reading this website - and sometimes I have to admit the misfortune of others does make me chuckle.

However I think that something that happened today is probably more embarrassing and shameful than anything I have ever read on here before - and it is only fair that I share it with you all!

Firstly let me set the scenario.

I have moved out of London and now have a 75 mile round trip every day - with girlfriend as pillon - so rather than batter the GSXR 600 to death - and to add to gf's comfort - I have been on the lookout for a Bandit 650S, with all the commuting toys (scottoiler, topbox, heated grips, alarm immobiliser etc) to commute on. She has also just passed her test - so it is an ideal bike for commuting, and her to play with at weekends whilst she gets used to riding on the road before deciding if she wants a bike of her own.

I have been looking for a bike at the right price with the right miles, and the right accessories for a couple of months now. Most are sold before I have even seen them for sale. I saw a bike go for sale last weekend - but unfortunately I am recovering from a cracked rib at the moment - and have been in so much pain that I could not go and see it.

I should also add that in the 3.5 years I have been riding - over 25,000 miles - I have been fortunate enough to have never done anything stupid (or I should say been caught out doing something stupid). I have NEVER dropped a bike - even when a car hit me on motorway with pillion on back I managed to stay up!

So back to the story.....

I call up yesterday to see if the bike is for sale, and arrange to go and look today. Bike sounds perfect over the phone, everything I want, and at a reasonable price which I am confident I can knock down further.

So I turn up and the guy is running late, so I look over the bike, and it is even more immaculate that I could have imagined. Everything I want on it - all receipts, service history, installation of alarm etc etc. Bike is perfect. As long as it rides as well as it looks - I have decided I am buying it and have my highest price I will go to in my head.

So I get my helmet on, gloves, jacket and I am about to go on a test ride - on the understanding (my suggestion!) - that if "i bin it, I win it".

Take the bike off the centre stand - fail to notice bike is on a camber - as bike wobbles I grip the handlebars to hold it up - sharp pain in ribs and bike falls over with me on top of it!

I had not even been for a ride - on someone elses bike - and I have dropped it. Picked it up (with help from owner) - picked up the smashed indicator, and busted brake leaver. I then go on test ride knowing that my ability to haggle on the price is severely limited, and that if i don't buy I have about £100 worth of damage to pay for anyway.

Luckily for me (and they guy being a decent chap) I bought the bike for the max price I wanted to pay (sure I could have haggled lower if not for the incident) + I have to buy new brake leaver and indicator!

What a prick! I invite you all to let me know that gave you a Friday afternoon chuckle, and it may make me feel better about myself that I have made others laugh ..........

he was brilliant! I slaughtered myself - and said to him that I will pay for any damage if I did not buy.

I think he could tell I was a genuine guy and was not gonna do a runner. I wouldn't do that - my fault so I have to pay for it one way or another!

He did say that when he sold his last bike, he took the deposit, the guy was coming back the next day with balance - and he took it for one final spin. Stacked it at the end of the road! So he had some sympathy.

I sold my Touareg to a footballer guy some months ago - through this site I should add.

He came to view the car with a friend and said he'd have it.

As he was getting in the car, I pointed out that it had forward and reverse parking sensors but also mentioned that there was a metal bollard a bit behind the car and so to be careful when he set off.

No problems he said and in he got, fired up the engine - and promptly ignoring all the beeping etc, he reversed into the said bollard - much to the amusement of a few onlookers.

Ooops!
