Driving a used car without tax to a port for export
Discussion
Perhaps BiB can fill me in on both rules and actuality on the following
A friend in Ireland is buying a second hand car in "middle England". The car tax has expired. He wishes to drive it from the dealer to the ferry ( part of the journey would be through south Wales ). The journey will take one day ( if the ferry cant travel due to weather then maybe two days ).
Doubtless this will be against many a law and he stands a good chance of being ANPRed. If he has a dated car sales invoice and a dated ferry booking with him would it be unreasonable to expect that he will be let away with it ?

No - and those docs would IMO be irrelevent. The only legal approach would be to tax it (and then redeem the tax less a month), or trailer it. If the car had previously been taxed then he would probably have got away with driving it immediately after the tax had expired. But I wouldn't expect any sympathy at all for driving a car which has no tax when it's clear he had no intention of getting it taxed.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
