Evening,
I usually lurk and post in TVR forums, but I could do with a spot of advice from you Landy boys.

My sis has just blown the turbo on her 52 plate TD4 Freelander. She was recovered to the local main stealer who are quoting £1900!

That can't be right surely?

Turbo £800
6 hours labour, fluids drain and replacement... total of £1900. The thieving ****ers.

Any ideas if this is right?

Can anyone suggest anywhere in the Newcastle/Durham/Tynedale area which will be slightly less of a pants down violation

Any advice appreciated....

Cheers
Andy

Sounds about right at a LR dealer.

Take it to a non-franchised specialist and pay half. . . . . .

try any of the various turbo specialists mate,

Turbo dynamics and Turbo technics being the two that immediate spring to mind, the former are very very good, the latter I've no idea these days. Might have a cheap off the shelf replacement, or faling that recon it for you.
Failing that I'd say ebay or any of the landie breakers or specialists.

If you know which way up to hold a spanner there's a used turbo (23k miles) on our favourite internet auction site.

Clicky

This is not being sold by me or any one I know, so please don't come looking for me if it explodes as soon as you start the engine!biggrin

the job really isnt that hard just have a go your self then sell the car as soon as it works. Free landers were a mistake from the begining they do not deserve to wear the badge.

Yeah, and bring back leaf springs...and dynamos....and rusty chassis. Eeee, when I were a lad. rolleyes

Without the Freelander (easily Landrover's biggest seller since it's launch) the company wouldn't be around today and you'd have to buy your replacement bulkheads/rear crossmembers/outriggers etc from a scrapyard.
