Guy's,

Me again wavey , been thinking a bit more about about getting taking my test and getting a bike.
I've searched for local training schools etc, and found These guy's. Looking at there courses they do a 5 day direct access course (6 days including the CBT on the previous weekend).
Now my question is can I really learn to ride and pass my test with just 22 hours riding?, this would break down to:
2 hours CBT
4 days at 5 hours riding per day
I'm assuming that these are 'road hours' and not just hours on the bike.

Another question: do I have to take a 'theory' test even though I've had a full car licence for 16 years?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for training schools in Birmingham, and should I do an intensive course or just take lessons??

Thanks in advance.

Chris

I did my Direct Access on a very similar schedule, and passed first time, so it's definately possible as a hell of a lot more will testify I'm sure.
Thoroughly enjoyed mine, just don't be under the illusion that you're a fantastic rider having passed!
I'd recommend it.

I went from zero experience to passing my test with just 3 hours on a 125 (inc CBT), and approx. 5/6 hours on a 500.

Now I think about it I was ripped off! wink

I passed mine with 4 days of riding and that included my CBT. That was with Circuit Based Training at Mallory Park.

I passed mine in 3 days including both CBT and the actual lesson ... so 2 days on a 500.

Did my CBT in a couple of evening sessions, 2 days on a CB500 and a couple of hours before my midday test. smile

Don't want to sound like an old fart, but when you pass your test, that's when you really start learning the art of biking...I did the restricted test on a 125 (because it was £100 cheaper than Direct Access), and in the intervening 2 years on a 'slow' bike (ok,I admit it, a scooter), learned a helluva lot, even though I've been driving cars for 30-odd years.
Then I got a Honda CB500: comfortable, reliable, handles well, not quick in biking terms but will still beat most cars if pushed - the ideal starter bike.
Now I have a lovely silver Kawasaki ZZR600: comfortable, reliable, handles well..double the horsepower, and as quick as most people need.
Good luck!

Another to agree, CBT ont he Sunday and Passed the test on the Thursday after only 4-5 days on a bike. I had also never been on a bike before that

And with the extended tests from Oct 08 its worth it even if you only ride a bit. always nice to improve yourselfwink

yup, i passed my direct access with a CBT and only a few hours riding (though I had a car license at the time). I only got one fault - for not coming to a complete stop at a stop line!
