At 2pm tomorrow, I have the joy of sitting my advanced driving test. A cerbera probably isn't the best car in the world for it anyway, but when the left hand indicator is deciding that it only wants to work 5% of the time, then things become a lot worse. Its only when signaling left that theres a problem, and I know that it isn't the micro-switch, as you can always cancel a right-hand signal by moving the lever to the left, it just doesnt want to actually engage a left hand signal all that often.

I'm sure I've heard that there's a way to reset the system; anyone know anything about this, or have any other bright ideas?

I suppose its sod's law that this would happen the night before my test, but as you can imagine, its difficult to practice perfect driving when you can only signal to the right. Help me lads!

Sorry about the repeat posting guys- either my computer or the PH website seems to be having a bit of a seizure.

It more than is likely that its a micro switch. There is one fitted to each side of the steering coloum.

Thats exactly what I thought too, but I'm positive it cant be, as the switch works 100% of the time when your asking it to cancel a right-hand signal.

Search my old posts via my profile and the procedure for resetting the indicators is in there.

You'll need to go back about six months to find it.

I'll have a search and see if I can find it for you.

You will probably find that if you cant reset the indicators, then the left hand micro switch has broken apart, causing the spring to fall away.About £1.90 from Maplins.

Cheers ireland- i take it thats just for checking the alignment of the sensor?

Is there any way that if the sensor mechanism was misaligned it would prevent one of the signals coming on?

[O/T gotta get me one of those cerbie manuals!]

Am I missing something here- is the reset procedure is just the "3 button" procedure for checking alignment of the auto-cancel mechanism?

I'm starting to think that there's a duff relay in the indicator control box. Reason being is that I've just found out that if I put the hazard warning lights on, I get the "stroke" effect- only the right hand side works. I know all the bulbs are fine, as they all flash when I lock the car, and presumably that will be powered directly from the immobilizer, and not the indicator cont. box.

I had this problem some time ago and found that it was nothing worse than the wires had worked loose from the circut board mounted about 12" down the steering column

Hope this helps
