As above so below

1.8 20V S, 69k, £1700 including my part ex crapbucket Astra. First impressions after a day of ownership are incredibly positive, its an amazing bit of kit, precise and nimble, with a responsive engine and sweet gearchange. And it was incredibly cheap cos it's got a boot on it!

There is a somewhat worrying clonk occasionally when I go over bumps coming from the rear, and a possible oily discharge speckling the rear alloys/back of the car (could be left over wax/back to black from where the missus rather imprecisely cleaned it yesterday while I was at work) but even if it costs me another £500 to fix up, thats still a damn sight cheaper than most cars of this power/year/mileage.

Any comments from anyone on what I should look out for? First step is to remove the tape deck and put in my MP3 headunit so I can at least listen to something other than the radio. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?

Thanks smile

Good choice! I got a diesel Toledo back at the end of June when I started a new job with fairly mega-mileage. Since then I've had nearly 10,000 happy miles (except when the engine undertray fell off 50miles after a service, grrr...).

WRT the radio, you've probably figured it out by now, but you'll need the special release keys, I got some from eBay for a couple of quid. HTH

Turns out the radio was recently swapped back in rather shoddily, and hadn't been pushed properly home. I just put my finger in the tape slot (visions of being a young kid putting sandwiches in a VCR) and pulled it out. Hey presto!

Thanks for the advice anyway smile
