Hey guys,

I am writing this on behalf of someone else to see what is expected for a couple of speeding offences.

The person was caught recently doing 60 in a 40 (Just coming out of a village - the 40 has just been extended due to new houses being built), and the camera was right on the edge of the 40 as it goes into the NSL.

Tonight the person was caught again doing 65 in a 30. Even though this sounds terrible, the road in question is a duel carriage way leading out of town where a 40 would be more sensible. If you know Aberdeen its the road off Holburn Street leading to The park (Duthie) next to the River Dee.

Its just by sheer luck i never went that way tonight as i usually exceed the 30 because i didn't even know it was a 30!!!

They are both obviously going to court, but what can this person expect? They need a car for their job, and are gutted about this run of bad luck.

I came on here for advice not sarcasm. Did your mother never tell you if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all?

And yes, it is very unfortunate. The person is gutted and is very worried about a ban! :s

The advice then is don't exceed speed limits by big margins if you don't want a ban.

Very good. Well done. If you had bothered to read the start of my post then you would have seen that i had asked "what is expected for a couple of speeding offences", not "What would be the best way to state the obvious?".

Thank you. But is that a definite? How will the judge look upon the situation? Individual or joint in which case which is worse?

Sorry there are lots of questions but i have no points so no idea how this kind of situation goes.

Ah right cheers rich i think i may invest in one for the safety of my license.

Am i right in saying the person can expect 6 points and a heft fine for each time they have been caught? If so 12 points will be ban?

Cheers

I'd expect a ban for doing twice the posted limit. Can PH BiB confirm/deny?

65mph in a 30 zone usually means a ban (30 mph above any limit), IMO he might get 3 points if not 4 for the 60 in a 40 but unless he can prove hardship for the other charge he will get a ban, 28 days if I was to have a guess.

65 in a 30 - a ban, without a doubt. I also have to add that that road has been a 30 for a long, long time. It was when I lived in Aberdeen - 20 years ago.rolleyes I'm sorry, but I don't have much sympathy for your mate.

I will say - tell him to get a good Aberdeen lawyer - the likes of George Mathers or Greer McRoberts tongue out

In a damage limitation way would it be better to try and have the 65 in a 30 heard first? Its likely to be a ban, but potentially a short one, 2 or 3 months. The licence will then be clean for points on the other offence?

Do it the other way and even if you don't get a ban it could be more than 3 points, then a potential ban under totting up? 6 months?

If you think a 40 is sensible for this stretch of road surely that means 65 is way too fast for that stretch of road?? Anyway, good luck to him!

Also, how does he know he was caught tonight for definite? Scamera van? Hand-held? Flashed??

What made you think it was a 40, seeing as there obviously aren't any signs to say it is (& there would have to be) ?
