cheers dan
Id be interested in this as well as a possible option for the missus (has to drive autos for medical reasons). I was quoted a rough ball park figure for conversion of around £4k year or so ago...someone once told me that a few automatic chimera's were built

I've a GM180 out of a (very) late SD1 sat in my shed at present and the Chim racer is stripped to a rolling chassis, so I'll report back in a bit!
Edit:
Right done some measuring and the long and the short of matters is a GM180 wont fit. The bulk of the gearbox is actually smaller than a T5, however the sump (that houses the oil maze etc) would foul the exhaust and the offside lower chassis rail.

Iain

Just had another thought. The BW65 was used in early SD1's and uses the same prop as the manual cars so it's a replacement for the LT77. Whether or not it fits width ways I don't know. However, my dad has a 4speed ZF box that he's planning on fitting to his SD1. No idea of it's origins, I'll check with him, but I'll measure it up tomorrow. From memory it's a bulkier box but it may fit because I thing it's lacking the sump of the GM180.

I had a new Chimaera 5000 fitted with a automatic system back in 1999.
It still kept the original system and could be driven in the normal way but had an extra unit fitted with mirco switches on the gearshift
Car was fitted out for a client who had lost a leg and it was his only way of driving a new TVR.

I reckon it must be a bugger to drive though. Auto car with dodgy idling (and they all suffer from it eventually) must be a devil.
Hello chap how are you?Check your mail (in a minute)
