I'm scratchchin on the idea of turning my 4.2 into a 4.5
Obviously I'm not fully aware of what needs to be done but I'm sure some of you know/done it? Whats involved and what kind of wonga are we looking at?

Hi
I bought a Cerb that has been converted already from 4.2 to 4.5. I just had a look through all the reciepts. It looks to me like you need a different size crank (offset i guess), new main and rod bearings, a strocker kit for the 4.5 - crank rods and pistons. My one had the heads all ported and polished at the same time along with the uprated clutch and bell housing so the bill is higher (this may be essential but i dont know). Parts bill £4102.03
Labour for that lot 86.75 hours at £45 an hour = £3903.75 but i suppose that depends where you go. Also got a years warranty on it.

So i guess the answer is - about 8/9k and a weeks work.

with that fee (even if you could save a few £g) I would wonder why you would convert. surely sell your 4.2 for good money and buy a sorted 4.5?

I did think of selling and buying a 4.5, but all for about a split second!
I love this car and wouldn't part with it. It realy is something special.
Would have to be one very special 4.5.

I think you'll find its a 4.7 and yes its mental hehe.
Saying that I absolutely love the colour of Barry's old car and if it were mine I'm sure I'd improve that first, but that's me biggrin.

4.7
eek Thats why its mental!.

However, I'm back from being down in the mouth this mornig after a friend (Mark) did a good lot of work to the car (Don't think hes gonna stop either!) wink
Now, this evening after all has been done and the roads have gone quiet, I took her for a little run. Well, she didn't run. She WENT! laugh
Even bigger grin than ever and the Mrs was planted firmly ( In the seat!).
She is now running like a B*****d Son of a thousand maniacs
Still room for improvement yet Mark tells me Surely not!?

Do think maybe it's something special because it's a 4.2 ? If it ain't broke etc etc. Presume you've driven a 4.5 and much prefer the experience to a 4.2 ? Be interesting to know how they compare. I've a 4.2 and most happy with it - fabulous motor. Would be cheaper to just buy a 4.5 would it not.
