Are there some 'usual suspect' areas for water to get into the passenger footwell does anyone know?

I knew my car didn't like travelling through excessive water and spent some time drying out the ECU yikes last time, but the ECU has now taken on water again, but from above it would seem, cos' I haven't been out driving this week and it was okay last weekend confused

Seems to be travelling along the wires??

Any advice of a common area for leaks into the footwell (if there is such a thing), would be appreciated! Thanks! smile

I would put the link up but I am on the phone and it's too much to run a search.

Hi Tracey smile

Fab to see you all too! smile

Hmm, I did wonder if it was that problem again, but as I thought it was water from underneath the car that caused the problem, my mind was thinking of other causes! The car was really struggling on the way home - had some moments where I wondered if I would make it! But that car is such a trier, bless, as always, it did get me home, despite waterlogged electrics!

So pleased you like the wheel choice! Thank you! clap

Amazon, I'd check where the ECU wiring comes through the bulkhead. There should be a large washer holding it all together & sealing the hole. This may have come out/disintegrated. Find your tube of TVR leak sealer (black mastic) & re-seal the hole....

O/T : re the wheels :

There's a big oval grommet that the loom passes through just under the windscreen. It's possible if the ECU's been pulled in/out a few times that the grommet is dislodged/twisted. It's quite hard to get to from under the bonnet (scuttle off, header tank out, contortionist fingers round wiper mechanism). You *might* get at it from in the footwell with the under-dash trim panel removed. If you can see loads of daylight up there where the wires come through then that's probably where it's coming in.

IF it is that, trying the straighten the grommet will test your patience. You could I suppose inject some clear silicone around the loom where it comes through the grommet.

Hello Nicky, thinking about this. You might have a leak from the header tank or the pipe underneath it.This happened to me,and where the header tank sits there was two small holes that went through to inside the car. This was letting water in to and behind the carpet down to the E.C.U. the holes were obviously put in by the factory. Also pull the carpets out and the ones from the side wall as the pipes to the heater matrix enter the car from here and pass over the E.C.U. check for any leaks there.

(Notice how my finely honed photographic skills redface have managed to also include a picture of Focused's Cerbera, with spiders, reflected in my car, sort of as a 'before and after')!! laugh

Not sure if you've lost interest yet - but here's the latest update. Having pulled out carpet, underlay etc. I cannot find any holes. I see light where the fibre glass is thin, but that's it. However.......first picture shows 'gromit' which I think looks fine (from underneath anyway)....

But there are two indentical diameter pieces of hose which run from left to right across the footwell and they look like they have been seeing some water (are these the heater hoses?) and for a while too.....frown. I am guessing they shouldn't look like this.....

This picture is where they disappear on the right hand side of the footwell.

Checked driver footwell - wet but only up at the pedal end. Doesn't seem to be any moisture higher up though confused

Do I have to go in from the engine bay now? And do I stand a chance at sorting this out myself do you think?

Plugged in the ECU and took it round the block. MIL light not on now smile, car seemed to be fine, but after 3 miles or so, started to sound like a Lancaster bomber feathering a couple of engines. And felt like I had the handbrake on (well you know, if it worked....).

What do you think? Am I out of my depth? ears

Get a torch and look underneath and around the header tank.See if its damp under there. Also try to dry off around the heater pipes that yo have uncovered and see if there is any weeping from them. The holes i refered to earlier are located on the fibreglass under the header tank. But can be seen with the use of a torch.

If the above fails to reveal any evidence. Then it would be wise to remove the panel around the wipers and re-seal the panel underneath around the wiper boxs and all the holes that carry pipes and looms around the bulkhead with silicon sealant.A job you are more than capable of.And you will get the satisfaction you done it yourselfthumbup

Footnote: This advise would be wasted on Fubeslaugh

Thank you Mark smile. I can do no more tonight now. Have double covered the car for complete weather protection!

I will do as you suggest as soon as I can tomorrow smile. Have brought the ECU into the house again for more drying out!

The panel around the wipers? Hmm, is that the panel which is like a fixed bonnet extension - fixed with alun (sp?) keys? Never visited the wiper boxes before. Good a time as any I suppose! ;-)

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mark. But not sure what Fubes will have to say about it all! eek

Nicky, I can't add anything useful to find the leak, but the new wheels look fantastic!

Hi Amazon

I can't get the link to work to the TVR bulletin detailing water leak hotspots as Uncle Daves bandwidth is exceeded again so here's the section that concerns you.

1. Wiring loom grommet or multiplug connector on early cars.
2. Grommet for wiper motor wiring
3. Wiper motor securing bolts
4. Expansion tank bracket securing bolts
5. Heater pipes
6. Battery tray securing bolts
7. MAP sensor pipe (barometric pressure pipe from rear l/h airbox)
8. Rivnut for scuttle panel
9. Windscreen
10. Door seals
11. Grommets in floorpan
12. Indicator side repeater

That just about does it for leaks on the nearside front of the car.
Happy hunting.

Regards
Simon.

Once you take the outer panel off, then you will see the panel to the wiper boxes underneath, and it will all become clear.
