Darren - you should try searching the forums using the advanced serach feature. A search for "exhaust" should answer most of your questions.

To summarise, there are a few ways that you could achieve what you want - with varying costs. At one extreme you could look at a new full system (front to back). ACT do such a system and I believe it is around £450 ex VAT. On the other hand, if all you're looking for is more noise there are a couple of cheaper options. One is a straight through exhaust, the other is a cherry bomb conversion. Both are modifications to your existing exhaust so won't affect the outward look of your car and both are modifications to the silencer box. A straight through system involves removing the perforated pipes from the silencer and putting solid pipes in their place. The cherry bomb conversion involves removing the perforated pipes and replacing them with "cherry bombs". Both give a similar effect and people have their preferences for each so it would be best to contact people on the forum and have a listen to each. Oh - and both can be had for between £150-200 fitted.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
James

Have a look at these two for an idea of the different noises you can get. I have the Offords cherry bomb exhaust and love it.

Ive Just had the Offords Cherry Bombs fitted, at first I wasn't too sure if I liked it. A lot louder and much deeper than I expected. The Videos dont do them justice IMO. Now I love it. Massive grin inducers. When on a motorway run I get more noise from the wind than the exhaust so its not an issue. I live in Worksop so if you want to hear them, in the flesh so to speak, to help make your mind up just say.

Hi Darren

I'll go along with what Sapper has mentioned. I had the Offords Cherries fitted - at first I was not too sure as they certainly give a different sound to the standard system, but now they have bedded in I would not change them for the world. The good thing about them is they hardly make much more noise when on a run or burbling around town but when you put your foot down that's a different story. If you like plently of pops and crackles on over run as well, that's an added bonus. The whole mod cost £160ish inc VAT so did not hurt the wallet too much either.

Have fun

he he he - temptation was just too much for me Simon and we happened to be spending a weekend in Cambridge not far from Offords, I figured if I did not like the sound I could quite easy go back to standard, there have been a few people on the forum who have swopped standard and modded exhaust around with each other.

- That reminds me I must drop your hoses back round to you, I completely forgot - sorry about that mate, I'll leave them on your doorstep if you're not about if that's OK

Cheers

Just to add a bit, I think the Offords 'cherry bombs' are a lot louder than the ACT ones because they aren't actually cherry bombs at all, they're just larger bore pipes welded in place of the perforated original ones to give a deeper tone and more pop and spiting, hence the price difference! Before I added the sports decat bits, I had just the ACT Cherry Bomb system (front to back replacement) and it wasn't a huge amount louder than standard, but it did give it a lovely throaty tone cloud9

With the sports manifolds, decat and replacement cherrybomb exhaust it sounds bloody evil, big smile from me every time I drive it (which is every day), cheers me up a treat when i'm having a bad day and great comments everywhere I go from all ages!thumbup

So is the Offords conversion not actually using Cherrys??

you should have the backbox cut open and have the wadding out and straight through pipes in it
sounds lovely evilcloud9

I've had the pipes sleeved, but got them to put the wadding back in to reduce resonance. 121Db @ 6k RPM cloud9

I haven't seen personally, but that's what i've heard. It would explain the difference in both price and exhaust volume though. Listen to a car with Offords cherries on and an ACT cherry setup on standard manifolds and y piece and the Offords one is much louder and sounds more like a straight through system but bassier. Can't knock it for the price though thumbup

Well they're both essentially straight through, but i'm not sure if either of them use wadding in the box still to stop resonance & echoyness, maybe one has it and the other doesn't? I find the sleeved ones a bit hollow though personally, the cherries add a bit more meat to the sound. Besides, with the decat its still offensively loud and sets off car alarms, but sounds like a muscle car thumbup. I considered going for a bit more volume and dropping the cherries, but i've heard decat straight through systems before and whilst they are loud, they tend to sound quite tractor like IMHO!
