Next question...obviously, I would never do this...but what's the deal with playing your IPod while riding? Is it something that alot of people do?

If so, what's the best way of getting the sound in the helmet? I'm guessing the standard IPod head phones probably don't work very well given the wind noise etc...or do they?

If you are never going to do it why does it matter? biggrin But if you was that way inclined you could use the noise cancelling ear phones, that fit in your ear like ear plugs. Personally i like to use what little hearing i have left, (after using ear plugs) to hear what is going on around me.

For mine I just got a mono flat earpiece from maplins. Not great sound, but can hear it easily through my ear plugs. Don't want it so it takes over your hearing, thats why I like it mono.

This is the jobbie

I listen to mine on long trips through my shure e2c in ear head phones. They work just like ear plugs in terms of blocking out background noise so you just turn them up to a normal level while stationary and you can still hear it perfectly well on the motorway without damaging your hearing.

Nearly always listen to my IPod Nano when I'm on the bike, probably not sensible but neither is my bike... In for a penny, in for a pound. To be honest, I'm still able to pretty much hear anyway because the bl**dy headphones never sit in my ears properly!

I persoanlly wouldn't do it, I use my hearing as much as possible whilst riding to help with what is happening around you.
I just don't see the point in blocking out one of the main senses when as a motorcyclist you need all the help you can get to keep safe.

If you use normal headphones which don't block out the wind noise you can't hear the traffic. If you use decent inner ear headphones like the shure e2cs then you don't block out much more noise from cars around you than you would with normal ear plugs. You're not exposing yourself to any more danger than you would by listening to the car radio in the car. In the two years I've been listening to music on the bike it has never caused me to believe that it was affecting my safety even when filtering down the motorway. If it did then I wouldn't do it.

I have my MP3 player hooked up to an Autocom system. The speakers are in the helmet at all times and they fit without any issues. In addition to this the system has a sensor in the helmet that monitors wind noise and this will adjust the volume of the music and therefore it's never too loud or too quiet.

Why would you never do it? I've done it several times on various trips, including riding through rush hour traffic and filtering. As long as you keep your senses about you and pay attention to what's going on around you all the time there's nothing wrong with it.

Never without the shuffle (or Nano) and the autocomm (which is installed in the bumflap of my textile). Been a regular music listener on bikes for about 5 years now.

It's never too distracting, it's just a lovely background track....and I can make phone calls too, which is nice....
