Riding SV650 on provisional licence?
Discussion
Hi folks, just had a thought. My SV650 is insured for me and in the licence bit it says provisional. Now I know I cannot ride it on my own till I pass my test but can I ride it on lessons with an instructor?

f you do not already hold a full motorcycle licence you may, after completing CBT and passing the theory test, take the practical test on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 35kW. A pass would then allow you to ride any bike.
All or part of the CBT course may be taken on either a learner bike or a large bike.
You may practise for the practical test on a large bike provided you:
* are accompanied AT ALL TIMES by an authorised Direct Access instructor who is riding another bike and in radio contact
* wear fluorescent or reflective clothing and
* follow all other provisional licence restrictions.
It seems to say here that I can? Your thoughts on this are most welcome. All or part of the CBT course may be taken on either a learner bike or a large bike.

That would seem to be the way the wording goes. Nothing to say you can't, and it would keep it exercised.
However, I suspect that rocking up on the SV after a day spent examining people on CB500's would raise you above grey-man status with the examiner, which can go either way, and you have no control over that.

Yep, there's enough pressure to not drop the school bike and look stupid, let alone adding the extra pressure of trying not to drop your shiney new toy.
Personally I'd pay up to hire the school one, pay up for the insureance exess waiver and worry a lot less!
Also agree with the above comments re taking the test on a 'flash' looking bike...could swing it in or out of your favour!
Good luck either way though.
