The dash ECU is behind a panel by the accelerator which is fixed to the footwell wall by velcro, this would be a good place to start to make sure there are no loose connections etc.....

It is the box with 2 ribbon connectors and 3 plug in connectors and is about the size of a box of Terry's All Gold.

My old Tamora used to do it when the headlights were turned on. Strangely enough, it was only after I had them converted to HID's. Even if I turned the headlights back off, the screen would still be blank. After I turned the engine off and then back on, it would all be ok again - until the headlights were turned on again. The one thing that was interesting was that the odometer was still clocking up the actual mileage even when the display was blank (obviously I only realised this once the display came back on).

I always assumed it was some kind of increased electrical surge caused by the HID's that knocked the display out. Although, I never got to the bottom of it as I sold the car like it.

Gulp! Hope the HIDs didn't cause it - I've just ordered some from ebay. As for the screen, mine has lines accross it making most of the info obscure, have just this second ordered a new one, thanks to the kind advise of one of the guys from here. Simon

Maybe the backlight has ceased to work (that's what mine did). Try a strong flashlight at the screen (or move it into the sunlight). You should be able to (faintly) read the information now.

I hope you understand what I mean smile .

I replaced my LCD display with a new one. Cost: about 100 € and 1 hour.

Thanks for the help.
I don't have HID's on my TVR but I've heard the ballasts need to be away from electronics as they can interfere with them.
My computer screen does seem to have the backlight on still, also the red shift light always flickers now, even before starting the engine.
I found the box down by the pedals, it has a chip on the front of it. I'll check the connections that end and maybe take the clocks out to have a look.
Are the clocks easy to take out?

Had something similar when my alternator was replaced with the wrong type and was sending spurious voltages. Display flickered and sometimes died but shift lights would flcker on and off even at idle as the tacho reading was being corrupted by the voltages- might be worth putting a meter across the charging terminals to the battery. All sortedbounce
All advice much appreciated.
I found the pod ecu down by the pedals(my engine ECU was also down there)
All I had to do was remove the plugs with the ribbon cables and plug them back in.
Now my display is back to normal so must just be a dirty connection. No signs of any moisture anywhere.
