This morning on my way to work I got in a heavy traffic jam, and the water temp of my 4.2 Cerbera got very hot. Until 105°C, I could not check if the fan are working. After the traffic jam the temperatur got down to normal 90°C. Is this something to worry or is this normal?

thats about what our cerb reaches in traffic, sometimes starts to creep up a little more, does get a bit worrying at times, at the moment it reads nothing at all, its broke !!! hehe

I have heard you can get a cooling chip?? that solves this problem, which i keep meaning to look into. I believe joospeed does it and I'm sure Austec are now doing them, but not 100% sure!!

Seems high.

I used a couple of bottles of rad flush and emptied cooling system. Also removed the front number plate and repositioned so it wasn't blocking the front vents. Mine now sits at 85 to 90 most of the time and may rise to 100 if sat in traffic.

Hi

This seems normal for mine, it seems to run normally at 90 but in traffic it will go straight up to 105 but does drop when the fans kick in to 98 to 100 then back up to 105-110 then back down when fan kicks back in again.

The capillary that measures water temp is affected by airflow under the bonnet. Sitting in traffic tends to cause it to over read. Dropping the cut in temps for the fans does help keep a lid on things, half speed fans (running the two fans in series, parallel for full speed as normal) works better still.

Steve.

My car has just the one fan and it looks like its been that way since new. I am looking to bin the standard fan and fit two bigger and better efficenty newer items in its place.

I have read on thiese cooling ecu upgrades that bring the fan in at a lower temperature, but why not save a few quid and fit a manual over ride switch yourself? You can then flick the fans on as soon as you reach traffic and the temp will remain low.

I also thught about fitting a third fan as a push through on a manual switch and leaving the two pull through fans on the ecu themostat.

What are peoples thoughts on the above??

Cheers
Dave...

Sounds much the same here. Sits at 90 only if I'm constantly doing about 50. Driving her hard and she'll sit at 95+. Potering abount at speeds below 50 and she'll gradually creep up and top out at 105. The fans will bring her down to 95, but no lower.

Thought about an overide switch myself - just haven't got around to it.
And I've heard good and bad things about water wetter, so I've avoided using it.

The cooling chip isn't an answer for anything I don't think.

If you want a cheap cooling chip, just disconnect the electric water temp sensor in the front engine bay. Will take you all of five seconds. Doning this wil make the car think its at a constant 95 degrees and will switch both fans on if you have aircon, or just the one fan if you don't.

The fans will stay perminently on all the time its disconnected.

Better still approach it in a more scientific manner and sit your can at rest idling. Wait till the first fan comes on a 92 degrees and see how your dashboard temperature gauge differs from 92 to see if its really the car overheatig or the gauge misleading you.

Let us know how you get on. We have advice ready for checking your cooling system or re-calibrating yourr gauge. smile

Amazon doesn't need aircon cos she's so cool.

Besides I don't think most women need aircon. My grandfather used to tell me that horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow. smile

Never seen it above 95 since fitting the cooling chip even when in traffic, there again never seen it for a month as its in having the rack repaired.

Gutted now, I thought I had air-con as the button is there and operates as per the manual. But just the one fan, so I guess I was wrong.

Only took delivery on Saturday and so finding little bits as I go on.

Still gutted though!

Aditional idea is to just fit something like an adjustable kenlow independant thermostat into your radiator hose that will control an push through front mounted fan.

I am going to go for belt and braces as I have had some issues already!!

Cheers
