Hey all

Had the Tam a few weeks now and managed a few hundred miles in it so far with fun at every turn of the key thumbup

HOWEVER, i have noticed a lack of solid grip at high speed in the car. It is currently on new rear shoes (can't remember if it's got new fronts or not) and was advised that it will be a little slippery at first - but this has since disappeared and I'm left lacking real confidence in the car at higher speeds.

What could it be? Pressures? Geo setup?
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Ta smile

Could be a combination of things, you need to be more specific.

What tyres are you running on ?
Whats your tyre pressures (hot) ?
Whats your damper make ?

I would guess you're on Toyo T1S or T1R, which will make it greasy for a few heat cycles. I would also guess you're running higher tyre pressures than advisable.

24 front and rear, and give it some heating and cooling cycles if the tyres are as suggested. If it's no better, get the geo checked.

Well .. why don't yo get the geo checked just for peace of mind anyway . and if it checks out ok start playing with the tyre pressures and tell us what happens. Until you've sorted the obvious things it's virtually impossible to give you any guidelines ..

Out of interest .. does the car actually lose grip prematurely at high speed or is it just a feeling of instability you get?

Jules, I suggested what I did because they are free and probable (you plced your business head on it seems). 24 psi is quite well established as the correct tyre pressure - why would you want to experiment.

Personally as Daftlad says I'd be checking the tyre pressures first off, dropping to 24 psi allround makes a huge difference, and new toyo's t1r's are horid untill they have a few hundred miles on them.

edit for correctness.

I am running toyo's at the rear, and am hoping some more miles will get them running better.

Will pressure still be 24 on 16's? Plus, is that hot or cold pressure?
I'll get it adjusted today then...

My Tamora broke free much earlier than expected the other day too. Usually grips hard, but a corner that's usually a twitch turned into a slide. I run my tyre pressures quite high, so might knock them down a bit.

I thought 16s were 28psi?
I pumped my 16s up to 28psi (cold) for a weekend run through to Callander and the car felt magic.

Neil

Edited to say that that is for Avon tyres.

Hi Burba, I used to run 26psi with Avon ZZ3s fitted all round on your Tam, plenty of grip, lasted for about 15k and were very stable well into 3 figures on the track, maybe the tyre combination isnt helping or more miles are needed on the new Toyos.

Hey Tam, loving the car!!! biggrin

I have a feeling it is the new tyres indeed, and just lots of miles are neeeded under the belt - let's just hope!!
