Maser Spyder & Quicksilver exhaust
Discussion
Well, my new (to me)Spyder now has the Quicksilver exhaust duly fitted. I spent a couple of weeks living with it to get the feel of the stock exhaust but knew I was likely to change. I wanted to listen to as many different exhausts as possible but ultimately, and given my wife would shortly lynch me with the constant sound of YouTube replays of different exhausts
, I decided to go for the Quicksilver based in part on cost and in part on having heard it on a neighbours 3200 (I know, different engine, turbo etc but it gave me some sense of what I would be buying in to, so thanks Dave, I owe you a beer
Turned up at Top Gear Specialist Cars garage last night having been driven out there by a mate who is a thorough-bred petrolhead. The sun was shining (just) and I had visions of a quick hoon up to Callander and back to Edinburgh. Carlo met us and just threw me the keys with a big grin on his face.
I jumped in, and first click…….watch engine warning lights all go off. Okay, ready to fire it up now. Second turn and…..WOW! jeeeeeeezzz…..is that LOUD or what! It just burst into life with this awesome roar. It burbles away in low revs like a cat about to pounce……all taught and ready to go, just waiting for the moment to leap into action.
After another hour or so of chat and wandering around the various Diablo’s (some stunning examples in stock
), Murciealago’s, Ferraris etc it was time to head home. (had a seat in a very nice indeed 550 Maranello). The first few drops of rain were starting to fall but I just had to have the roof down to take on board the full experience!
Whilst I had no reference points for other exhausts this sounded great. A very deep bass with a gorgeous rumble and popping noise on downshifts. As you get speed up and keep a constant speed the noise subsides a bit and you get more of the engine note kicking back in but the minute you slow or downshift that noise is back….OMG how incredible!
I’m not sure what my neighbours will be thinking but hell, it is worth an ASBO! Early days yet but, this is going to be fun. Not sure what it will do for the fuel economy but hey it’s worth it for the smiles per mile.
Thanks Carlo, suffice to say I'm on
