Hi,
took my e39 523 (dual vanos) to a dealers to get looked at and for a bit of advice, I was complaining the car is sluggish below 3k revvs.
If I unplug the vanos solenoid it makes no difference to the cars peoformance. they said they can test the vanos system and give its working tolerances. just wonderd how they do this?
test will cost £45 at main dealer

Maybe its worth having the cam censors checked on a diagnostic machinetook my e39 523 (dual vanos) to a dealers to get looked at and for a bit of advice, I was complaining the car is sluggish below 3k revvs.

Saw a guy with a similar complaint go into my mates garage with a Z3 which turned out to be cam censors
The GT1(BMW diagnostics) has a test module that you run through to test the vanos. This module tells the DME to work the vanos in all tolerences and loads-its able to force the DME to move the camshaft to max and min lifts, the module then looks at the engine output, airmass and so on and compares it to its own map.If any are out it will fail the test.
There are a few things that give the fault you are experiencing-MAF,vanos,air leak etc.
