Potential new owner questions

Hi, i almost bought a cerb a few years back and am currently selling my maserati 3200, i have been offered a tuscan in part ex. Basically i have a new car being rebuilt and will be done in about april 08, was thinking of selling my maserati and buying a civic type r or something like that and put the 10k difference in an ISA until i need it in 2 years for a new house. I would keep the car i buy until marach/april then sell it so it will be a brief term of ownership. Anyway a guy has offered me a 2001 tuscan speed 6, 4 owners, 20,000 miles, cluch done at 17k, full tvr history, no rebuilds i dont think, its blue flip type colour with cream leather interior. Its had the front end painted and the guy will give me 2k cash and his car for my car ivalue a 17.5k.

The maserati is obviously pricey on parts, labout and fuel. Can someone offer me any insight in tuscan running costs etc and things to look out for? I will have thi car til april and then sell on so re sale issues will also be important

Your biggest problem will be selling the car on, read some posts here and you will see loads of people who have been trying for months, or just look at the classifieds to see when they were posted, keeping it for 7 months only will mean advertising in Jan probably! how much will it cost? anything from £500+, typically mine costs 2-3k per year and that is a general average, that and winter is on its way, these cars are much more satisfying in the summer although everyone will always enjoy them all year round. I bought mine with the intention of keeping forever or the factory probs, warranties etc etc would probably have made me think twice. I'd love to see a new owner, but for 7 months...gotta say it might not be worth it.

Selling a Maserati isn't too different to selling a TVR though. Nice market, expensive parts & servicing The clutch on a cambio-corsa (or flappy paddle gears in Top Gear speak) is supposed to be good for approx 8,000 miles and cost >£1,500 to replace !

The change of cars will be that you'll miss the beautifully sculpted interior of the Maserati, but appreciate the raw power of the TVR.

Reliability wise, my mate's Maserati has been in the garage at least 3 times as often as my Tuscan.

I would also have the engine checked out to ensure a rebuild is not going to hit you.
In April you will be trying to sell a 24k mile car with no rebuild and so............

Of course, you may also find that you simply dont want to sell it, then you'll be in the horrid position of having two cherished cars to care for
