Damnit!

so I managed to bend my frame, nothing lines up properly any more, rubbing disks, rubbing wheels mashing gears - the normal.

A friend "gave" (i owe favors) a GT I Drive XCR 2000 frame (from 1999 I belive). I intended to just stick all the kit from my current frame onto it.

Everything's here, just need a bottom bracket as it's longer then mike johnson; off down the bike shop I go. Explain what I need and Dylan (my grease monkey) says that it's seriously old skool having tapered cranks and BB so I splurge and get a 2008 XT crankset and BB.

£120.

Lovely.

But ofcourse with new cranks you need a new chain and therefore cassette!
£15
£35 +
- - - -
£50!

All that nice cassette + chain action - could do with a rapid rise mech to go with it...

£35

Then a front mech because this frame pulls from the bottom

£23

New cables because, shit, why not

£15

And some xt shifters because everything else is (aution not ended :/)

So far...

£243... frown

Bye bye fuel budget, bye bye beer budget, bye bye social life.

HELLO BIKE!

But it'll ride nicely with all that spangly new kit on it. Rememeber, the glass is half full.

I feel your pain..

Got back from Morzine last week - the list of damage so far:

  • Forks have lots of play in the bushes - they're too wank ('02 Manitou Black Elite) to bother reconditioning, so it's time to replace them with something nice and plush and freeride-y
  • Rear shock doesn't hold air so well any more, plus the QR for the travel adjustment (Marin TARA thingy) has seized - so its time for a new rear shock and Marin-specific QR shaft
  • Saddle is seriously bent and missing some leather. I don't remember the crash that caused it, but there were so many they all kinda blurred together wink
  • Rear mech took a serious walloping and is full of Les Gets mud, and it's a cheapy LX one that I can't take apart and rebuild, so that needs replacing
  • Wheels are seriously bent, and if I go for a beefier fork I'll need a different front axle..
  • Both tyres are cut to ribbons with inner tube bulging out everywhere
  • Front brake needs bleeding, but the bleed nipple is completely shafted so the caliper probably needs replacing

...oh! frown

My hubs are staying to develop play so it's time to get them rebuilt.

They're only about 6 months old too!
