205 1.6 gti grating noise when reversing

i have a 1989 205 gti 1.6 when i reverse it makes a grating noise and the whole car judders i have changed drive shafts and even the gear box but it remains the same. can anyone help?

Sounds a lot like a brake problem. Fitting non-bendix pads or worn sliders can cause the problem you describe when going backwards.

Its not a safety issue and lots of people advise turning the radio up when reversing
