Project hit a bump as I discovered some nasty suspension damage. I
am guesstimating the about $1000 in parts alone. There goes my
sound system budget. I also picked up my parts from SJ this past
week. I dont know who else has made a big order from the UK but
someone let me know if this is standard fare:

Crate shipping (by boat) 6'x4'x3' crate ~$500
Shipping company 'receiving fee' - $135
Customs broker fee - $100
Import duty - $75
Import bond - $40
Storage & loading fee - $165

All things considered I basically got a complete front body section,
both sections of the bumper, the under bumper 'spoilers', a
passenger airbag, a set of foglights,
the right headlamp pod, a windshield, and the windshield bonding kit
for around $4400 (including the raping i took above). I bought the
drivers airbag from a local dealer
for $350. In the mean time I have also picked up a BOV from sanj, a
momo shift knob, an aluminum gear ring, and a set of aluminum pedal
covers.

FYI.. the front body section from SJ runs as far back as the
windshield base and the first couple inches of the passenger foot
boxes and is very nicely made. I'll try and snap some pics later
this week

Anyway here is a link to the pics.. please take a look at the
suspension damage and let me know your thoughts. Also I am
considering leaving the firewall in place and cutting around it
leaving the firewall up to the wheel wells on the sides, up to the
windshield base on top and the first couple of inches of the tub
under the firewall in place and bonding in the new body section
around it. The way the wall is attached to the rest of teh body it
is going to be a real mess to cut out and replace.

Looks all to familiar!! I had no tie-rod damage but everything was damaged. Still trying to figure out how some of damage occured?? Anyway, I was able to straighten all the lower and upper links to near spec using a hydraulic press and making some jigs to get thing straight. Cut and replaced all the mounting bolts because they were all bent. If you can remove the bolts without cutting, great but I would not recommend trying to unscrew or push the bolts out. Depending on how bad they're bent you can cause stress cracks in the chassis mounts. I found this out on the first bolt I tried to remove all the others were cut!

Why are you buying most of your parts from the UK? They're plenty of Lotus parts available in the USA. That's alot of money being spent on shipping that could go to parts that you are going to need.

Good Luck,
louis
