Brake lights not working

Just checked in the pedal area and found that there were no wires disconnected,but the switch itself was loose.Tightened it up but still nothing.I managed some how to get the brake lights to flash on in messing with the switch,but still nothing.Do the switches operate when the pedal is pushed away releasing the plunger?.

Yes!

Switch is probably badly adjusted or knackered. A few quid to replace from your local motor factors.

Tip - take the old switch with you so you can compare various ones. No one knows what it's off!

Managed to fix the brake lights.Managed to match one at a motor factors for £7 and far superior quality.

Resurecting an ancient post, but I have this problem. Its my first problem aswell !!!

Reverse / indicators working fine, but no brake lights. I've removed the brake switch and cleaned up the contacts and still nothing.

Am I missing somrthing obvious ? Will touching the two wires that lead to the switch together force the lights on ?

Any ideas welcome.

I had exactly this problem, contacts looked fine but just wasn't contacting properly. I replaced mine with a Ford part, about a fiver from the local motor factors.

You'll need a couple of washers to get it to sit properly, but it feels a bit more solid than the old one which came off.

In regards to this question: yes if you contact the two wires the brake lamps should come on. I tested mine with a multimeter, a tool I think might see more use with owning a TVR!

Switch removed again, dismantled. All shiny bits cleaned with sand paper. Replaced. Brake lights working. Thankyou.

Will pop across to Raceproved (only 10 mins from me!) in the morning and see if they have any particular preferred type or upgrade option.
