I think a good well kept standard VTS or VTR is a very nice looking good car, if thats what you want from a car.

Cheap, small, comfy, fun on a backroad, economical, fast enough for most occasions for what it is.

Now as soon as people think they can make them better with cheap tat from Halfrauds, hmmmm.

nothing wrong with them aside of the fact they've become a boy racer icon.
In terms of the cars themselves, they're pretty good for what they are. Cheap as chips, cheap to insure, fairly reliable aside of a couple of quirks, better looking in standard guise than most of the competitions cars, practical and nippy, with the VTR and VTS versions being pretty quick when they were first released.
The saxo isn't a bad little car as far as small euro econoboxes go, it just has a bit of a tasteless following.

Each to their own Jason, I'm not saying the Saxo is the hottest thing on 4 wheels, I was saying that people stick shat on all sorts of cars...the sazo being the popular choice in the mid-90s, so much so than Citreon started to sell them with bodykits already on.

Most 205s are clapped out nowadays, and I love 205s. I've got a lot of respect for the VTS as well now, take of the 16v badges, replace anything identifying it as a VTS with VTR bits (or even westcoast) and you've got a nice subtle surprise package

I have a VTS and in some respects I like it and in other respects I absolutely hate it...

Its fast for a little car and its completely box standard. Quite nice interior and I think they look nice and sporty.

But on the other hand the build quality is shocking, it feels like it has been celotaped together, the suspension is really hard so you feel every bump, the exhausts always seem to blow. as it did on the other saxo I had. The seating position is very uncomfortable.

I have only bought it as I needed something quick, quite a step down from a 5 series :-(

great stuff, most 205's are now going through a BOOM phase as everyone wants one for track days. most also have the Mi16 engine in too.

The saxo can be a fantastically cheap track day car. A stripped VTS with a cage and a decent bucket seat can provide loads of fun. There light, cheap, quite quick, revvy (vts) and handle fantastically. It's a shame about the image but there you go. Those who haven't driven one hard shouldn't really slag them off until they have.
