"You have a new post" eMails delayed?

Chaps,

Is it me, or are the eMails telling you that someone has contributed to a thread of yours getting delayed? I have posted a couple of new threads recently, and eMails telling me that someone has posted a new post on them have been trickling in very slowly - often (seemingly) taking several hours to appear after the post is made.

(Or is it my eMail programme being slow to tell me that I have eMail? It's GMail, should this be relevant.)
