Gents,

Being new to the wonderful world of TVR and on the learning curve I understand that there can be issues with the stepper motor. I believe the basics of its function - controlling idle speed? I'm told that the motor requires cleaning due to carbon build up. Hence my questions are;

How often should it be cleaned?
Method of removal - I believe it may be "delicate"
Cleaning - is this undertaken with a wire brush?

Thanks for any advice and help.

Big Al.

wavey OK I used to clean mine about once a month. You'll need IIRC a 32mm spanner, just be carfull as the top part is plastic.

I used to clean mine with a rotary wire brush, and a bit of Solvo Autosol on the end. Don't over tighten when you put it back.

Hope that helps.

Seven year of ownership, I spent the first three years cleaning the stepper every couple of months (approx 1000 mile intervals). Then I discovered through experience that when using Optimax or should I say V Power exclusively, the stepper didn't fail. I have done over 15k miles since then without cleaning the stepper. I do occasionally use other fuels when visiting the depths of the UK country roads but as long as V Power is used regularly I have no problems.

The additional benefit is that V Power gives me around 20 miles more per tank so it works out no more expensive.

Damn it, if only I could get some V Power locally frown

I think the same must apply to BP ultimate 97 - I've had my 450 for 2.5 years now and never had to clean the stepper and I can only get BP ultimate around here.

I have had my car for two years now and have never had to clean the stepper. I agree it must be down to VPower keeping the thing clean!!

Thanks for all the very helpful advice. There is a Shell garage near me and have occasionally put some V Power fuel in so looks like I'll be visiting there more often smile
