In the next few months buyers of Aston Martins are going to recieve a 'lifestyle' magazine/brochure which will showcase a number of luxury products befitting the socio-dem group that Aston target (awful marketing speak for which I fully apologise).

I've been asked if I would like to advertise in the Homes section of said publication.

What I'd like to know is whether you chaps would be swayed towards a company that advertised in connection with Aston Martin in this publication or would you (as I would, being honest) have a quick flick through and pretty much disregard it.

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

if it helps.....28, male, married, no children, own a 2007 V8V........if a furniture magazine dropped on my mat it would be binned - if an Aston magazine dropped on my mat it would be read cover to cover.

So i guess i'm saying that unless you advertise in this manner then I wouldn't see your products.

This is not to say that I would buy something because of its connection with AM - the product itself has to be good, but at least your reaching a market that might previously be unreachable (i don't read good housekeeping or country home to see this type of ad)

Just my opinion anyway......

Cheers

I got the first one of these (Spring 2007).. binned it. Apparently we (as Aston drivers) need to buy yachts, diamonds, perfume, Rolex watches, B&O stereos and should all be spending our time playing golf.

It's like an Argos catalogue for social climbers.

OK, so I guess I'm not your average Aston owner, but if I want to buy a house, the Aston mag would be the last place I would look.

I got edition 1 a month or so ago, it was very professional and very slick, the sort of Mag you pick up in the BA Lounge. But just like the mags I pick up in the BA lounge I had a flick through looking at the pikkies and that was about it. Maybe I am not the target market for the Mag, I am not very into the 'you by an Aston, you buy a lifestyle', I am more 'you by an Aston as it is the best car on the road'. If you want to appeal to me then advertise in Evo, I read that cover to cover each month, including aderts!

I flick through the magazine but don't really read it. If there was an advert for something I was interested in, then I would possibly follow up.

Excellent.

Thanks chaps, much appreciated.

Steve, your observations were sort of where I thought most people would be to be honest. Though 22pkk22's observations of swaying a casual interest are also very valid.

The product/service that I'd be advertising would be High End Home Theatre/Home Automation/Distributed Media so classic competitors would be B&O but less on the posh boxes (look of components is irrelevant if they are all in a rack hidden away) and more on the sound quality.

I'm immune to advertising and I don't read magazines or newpapers.

I don't tend to buy **anything** unless recommended by someone else, unless I'm away from home and I'm hungry.

That said I'm big into hi-fi see:

Forgot that this was your line... If I buy this sorta' stuff (and I do) I check out 'What hi fi' & other mag's best buys - then an internet review search for specific products/best price. I then generally avoid the cheapest and head for some reputation. A good website with clear contact details is my first port of call.

Good luck - oh, and I also ignore the Amex Centurian Mag. wink

Got my first issue of the mag and thought it looks very nice. Makes for great toilet decor, very swish biggrin

Read through it briefly, some cool articles on the racing stuff, and the only advert I remember is the double page picture of the yacht, because I thought it was rather cool. I even went to that company's website. The rest is the usual luxury goods adverts like watches that I'm just used to mentally blocking out in every other magazine!

Haven't got an Aston, but I got deluged with Jag and Land Rover stuff of a similar type. For what its worth I tend to skim through these for car related articles. I do think the guys who are putting these together should look at EVO, Octane, Car, Country Life, Scottish Field etc and see if what they are doing is competitive as a magazine, because that is clearly what they are trying to achieve. My impression is that there is too much glitz, too much homoerotic photography and too much emphasis on production.

However, I think that they have got their target market right but just don't really know how to appeal to them yet. The assumption that I want to read about a jet set lifestyle seems laughable, but then again, I like drinking champagne and have bought expensive watches, though I'm buggered if I would ever buy a yacht while there are still motor cars out there. If selling to end users is what you do, and the advertising is reasonably priced, then it might get your name noticed. There's a big demand for your kind of thing among people who I would regard as opinion formers.

So here's a Canadian perspective. I thought the mag was well done. Nice coffee table sort of stuff. Actually also went to the boat website and checked it out. Bought one of those Jaeger L'Coultre watches after seeing the one in the article. So it's probably a reasonable place to hit a small target audience.

once again don't consider myself to be a typical aston owner but i do like my home audioi/cinema etc. I have to recommend avforums.com in my opinion the best uk av sight out there. May be worth speaking to them about a review
