Off on my hols in the morning. Need a new camera.

My Pentax Optio T10 was good but had a terribly slow shutter speed. It's now dead as the missus bounced it off the floor of a town center boozer! rolleyes

In your guys opinion what would be a good buy??

Oh, and is it worth waiting till we get to the airport and buy it in Duty Free???

Thanks all.

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III should suffice.

www.dpreview.com will allow you to scrutinise whatever recommendations PHers make.

Whatever the latest Casio Exilim S-series model is.

I have an S-600 and, aside from some slight barrel distortion on the widest zoom setting, I'm really pleased with the quality of shots from it.

It has loads of pre-set modes, a metal body, big screen and is very slim and pocketable.

Not sure what prices you have in the UK but I've had a number of Canon Ixus (Ixi?) models and they have been superb.

Aren't you leaving it a little late...shops shut soon!

Fuji s5600
has been good for me - but I needed something with good optical zoom and don't mind it being a bit chunky. Cost £115 from amazon.

Mind, the newer model - S5700 is only £123 on there now...7mp, 10x optical zoom...horses for courses.

after a lot of searching around for a good quality pos camera i decided on the canon a640. most reviews were very good with the odd moaner.now i,m a total amatuer and i dont know properly how to use it but imo i,ve taken some pretty good shots.it also has a pretty good video camera.i bought from jessops online as every jessops in a 50 mile radius had sold out.they are selling for £180
you know when you buy something and your really really impressed and think its worth the money-well thats how i feel about this camera and i dont feel that way often at all.
only downside for me is its a little chunky.but its no where near slr size
what do you think.these pics really were point and shoot with no expertise in them.i,m happy for now

Canon Powershot A710 - also ditched my (awful) Pentax Optio for this.

Camera always seems to improve the shot. There's also a fully manual mode so you can start taking proper pics too biggrin

M3Japa, The photos of the dogs look great!!

I've been offered a Canon Ixus 900ti for £150. It's only 6 months old so i might be having that.

I was thinking of buying the new one in the duty free at the airport, hence the post being so late in the day.

Thanks for all you replies!! smile
