Help with diff - A Frame Suspension
Discussion
Help required again please guys.
I'm trying to fit the diff to the bottom carrier (on the bench) but is a bit of a job to say the least. I dont know whether the bolts that I have with the diff are too long but they have 3 or 4 washers on to act as spacers. I am assuming that the diff brackets are mounted onto the carrier first through the bushes and then the diff is offered up. This means however that the bolts holding the diff to the brackets must only be about 25mm due to the lack of clearance space - is this the right way to assemble or am I missing something. Does anyone know what size the bolts should be and what thread?
Cheers Shaun

Funnily enought I disassembled mine this morning and can tell you how to do it! There are 4 bolts altogether holding the diff to the brackets. the problem is the rear bolt on each side. Attack like this:
Loosely bolt ONE of the brackets to the subframe. You need enough slack so that it pivots easily.
Pivot the bracket all the way forward, until the front edge contacts the inside of the subframe
Offer the diff in. Heeeeeeeave, and possibly snap a fart string...
Insert the rear bolt as you will now just about have enough room. Note at this point that the diff will be on the piss relative to the subframe. This is fine as it gives enough room for the bolt. Do it up fingertight.
Pivot the diff and bracket back the other way.
Now fiddle the other side bracket into place, lining it up on the side of the diff. There will now be juuuuuuust enough room to insert the rear bolt on the other side. With 'em both finger tight, you can now pivot the diff and brackets back to the middle, line up the second bracket-to-subframe bolt.
Now the front two diff-to-bracket bolts will just (and i mean just!!) fiddle into the holes.
Tweak it al up and have a cuppa.
Once youve got the brakes on you'll need to have had enough weetabix to feed the 5000 to lift the subassembly. Its bloody, bloody heavy.
Hope this helps.
