Hi Guys

Backed car out of garage on saturday and lo and behold oil on the garage floor. The position it was in looks like rear of gearbox - I am guessing rear gearbox oil seal - any ideas anyone. Also Saturday it developed a misfire under load, it went after engine hot. Going to change plugs, leads and coil - hope it goes. Will dig into money I have been saving for missus xmas pressie to buy parts - mind you there is only £2.75 there - kids pocket money then

Cheers

Don't count on it being the output shaft seal. A sneaky leak can occur from the selector shaft where it enters the rear face of the 'box. There's an O-ring around the shaft that wears/ perishes and allows a trickle of fluid to run down the rear housing... from where it drips, making you think it's the seal. Just have a quick wipe with a cloth, further up, and see what you find smile
Needless to say, replacing that 3 pence O-ring means a full gearbox strip.

Mine leaked for years. Not a great deal in my case. Needed topping up every six or seven thousand miles. Easier than changing the seal. Kept a good deal of the chassis coated in oil as well.
