Hi, I'm after any advice you can give me, basically I'm looking to replace my car with something a bit special\different. I'm looking at about 60k tops for something pretty swift & fun to drive. I'm coming from an Audi S4 avant (B5 bi-turbo) & don't need the practicality at the moment so 2 (or 2+2) seats would be fine.

So firstly, opinions.. I love the boomerang lights on the 3200 but they are 6/7 years old now, same with the 360 (in budget). The gransport is newer but will depreciate more.. any pointers there?

also, I've got problems with a lot of 'nice' cars due to my height, at 6'7 I've ruled out Gallardo's, DB9's AMV8's etc. I don't mind swapping the drivers seat out or having a manual seat but would rather avoid any permanent modifications.

Is there anywhere I can get an indication of the main weak spots\costs and overall running costs of these cars? I'll probably be doing a fair chunk of miles - 8-10k/year I guess & would be looking to keep it for about 18-24 months.

Cheers,
Alex

Pretty high mileage, would suggest the 360 isn't a commuting car of note.. Maser probably a better bet, or a 911? Plenty of room height wise in one.

A mint low mileage 3200 will cost mid to low 20's tops. Cant comment on a 360 really a I've only driven one for about 10 mins and just didn't like it at all. Nothing I could put my finger on just not for me.
A GS is still on a fairly high depreciation curve for the period you are talking about.
I did 20k miles in mine in the first year and have now added another 15k miles in the following 5 years. I've not had any trouble other than small things that you would get with any car over that period and it still makes me smile when I use it. If you plan to do higher miles PA then I would go for the auto every time. The manuals will cost big dollars if there is a reasonable amount of traffic in your anticipated mileage. Clutch replacement is not cheap I hear.
Serviceing will cost less than 2k PA with a main dealer and is every 12k miles. Example I had a full service including belts, an mot, a battery conditioner, and a repaint of the inlet manifold for £1100.00 with my local main dealer.
Things to check with 3200's are make sure it has the red key, full dealer history, all recalls done, check condition of back boxes as they are prone to rust around the inlet/box joint. The rest of the exhaust is SS. As with any other car your gut instinct will see you right.
If you have any specifics questions about 3200's then post them up!
Hope this helps.

Driving psoition in 3200 is not great, usual short legs / long arms, but not many interiors feel as special. I loved the boomerang lights before any other part of the car, now I just love it all.
Loads more stuff over at maseratiforum, and a bit here

Cheers for the input guys.. next step is to talk nicely to the guys in Swindon (Dick Lovett) or Eggham (Maranello) & see if I can get a play in them all - ideally close to back to back if I can & see how they all fare. I do love the masers but there's something that keeps coming back to the 360 (TDF & cream or Tan please lol) so may be that's the one to rule out first lol.

The 360 is surprisingly easy to live with. You could get a really good buy if you go down the TDF blue as these tend to be undervalued and in usually good condition. I think TDF with crema is stunning but went red as mine was my 1st Ferrari. I would not recommend a tubi etc as these tend to make the car less refined.

8-10k miles is fine- just find a good indie and a lowish miles car to start with (or a high mileage one thats already depreciated!)

Cheers for the input guys, does anyone know if there are any decent independent specialists in the reading area - I guess Verdi is close-ish, any others?

I think there is a height problem with the 3200.

I'm 6 3 ish and had some padding taken out of the seat but there's only a fraction of an inch between my head and the roof. Being a Patrick Stewart lookalike helps. biggrin
