Hello all,

I am thinking of having a go at some spread betting on a small scale. I have signed up for a demo account on Capital Spreads, which has been a great way to learn about it before trying the real thing.

I still have lots to learn, but so far I think I will stick to the indices, particularly the DAX and the FTSE. Can anyone point me to some really good analysis for the main indeces? Not looking for inseider info or anything, but I could do with some advice on what is the more reliable information out there. Ta. biggrin

You're asking for the impossible in a way as no one out there has a crystal ball as to where the market is going to move next.

A good read on the pitfalls of trading and some regular, repeated (and oft-ignored) advice about managing risk can be found on this epic thread:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Start small. Use stops. Easier said than done for most I think. Good luck.

Cheers very much, I will get some Doritos in and have a read!

I was mainly wondering if anyone knows of any reports etc that you can subscribe to, which have proven to be useful, that kind of thing.

I've had a go with this myself recently and with Capital Spreads. What time span are you willing to trade for? Are you willing to open a position with a stop loss of 150 points or more and perhaps close a position at the end of the week or do you intend to ride the peaks and the troughs and trade in minutes? Realistically, how much are you willing to risk?

I've now become an investor hehe I've put it all behind me now until i've got money i'm willing to burn. You're not still slumming it on the binaries? Spread betting is definitely a hard way to make an easy living, they say that about poker too scratchchin

Focusing on Forex, now. They have this new fangled thing called "stop loss". It'll never catch on.

Backtesting DJC's method, it would have worked more successfully when he first mentioned it. Nowadays, gold and silver is more volatile, IMO.

They're bad apparently, I had it bashed into my skull how they're bad as you may have seen hehe I can see their point to some extent (but I better be quiet as this may start again whistle and don't want to hi-jack this thread.)

News at ten: Investor makes money when market is good! Up next: The Grandma and Egg dichotomy.

Well I signed up with IG Index yesterday, and so far I've managed to turn a tenner into £13.25. Makes me whish I had a grand spare... hehe

Still sticking to the small-time stuff while I learn the ropes, but it's quite fun so far! DJC's advice has really helped me get an understanding of how binaries work and how to make money from them, so big thanks to him.

Did you keep reading through that thread to the end? I don't think anyone actually following DJC's strategy made any money in the long run. You're always going to lose when playing the binaries (as that thread repeated many times). Are you doing binaries or spread betting (like you said in your first post)

Except it works when the market is bad. Just that the market has changed.

It did. I explained in the main thread the reason why.

Just the binaries at the moment. I'm still reading that thread, it takes a while. Seems sound enough though - wait until a market is near to closing, then take a small profit from what is left in the spread. I'm sure I'll get it in the arse at some point though! laugh

I don't want to spoil the ending of the thread for you so don't read any further if you want to see how things evolved.

Well, I respectfully disagree. The only time it did work was in a hindsight market.

Well, that is one explanation. I don't know whether you were actually trying the idea over the last couple of months, but if you were, you could feel that things had changed.
