I'm on my third OS rear indicator bulb in two weeks of ownership. Any clues as to why this might be? Electrickery isn't my strong point.

Can't help as to why, but it's a common thing for Land Rover D3's to blow the brake light bulbs. As such many owners inc. myself have switched to LED bulbs. www.ultraleds.co.uk/

Mmmm - you clearly know your stuff. Do you think it could be caused by fitting badges with pictures of lions on them?

I think I'll look into LEDs. Any particular ones recommended?

LEDs aren't the answer!

If your bulb is blowing it can be down to ether just a dodgy connector or a loose earth. Get it looked at

Fitting LED's into systems built for bulbs can cause problems due to the lower draw they use. Brake lights swapped for LED's can trigger the system to think a bulbs out things like that

Yeah I've just been reading up on that, seems a lot of effort to fix to, with resistors and so on being soldered into the flasher unit. I think as you say it's a dodgy contact or broken wire, the lamp I replaced tonight seems fine on initial inspection. Have to get the old multi-meter out at the weekend.

Not to solve this particular problem, but don't write them off all together. I swapped all my bulbs (less headlights obviously) on a Defender 90 and a Discovery 2 and thought the LED's were great - it really sets the car apart from the rest.

Some LED bulbs (especially indicators) come with the resistors already in now as a sealed unit.

if replacing the bulbs get some silvered bulbs and paint the orange holders as well - looks much neater at the front.
