calling all R1 history specialists year yamaha carb to injec

can any one tell me the year that yamaha changed there R1 from carbs to the injection model

I think it was 2001/ 2002 as if you look round you can get both model in both years ( overlap of stock)

The first R1 with injection was the 2002 model like mine. They only made it in 2002 and 2003. AFAIK all previous R1s used carbs.

That's an 2001 model, Silver frame. The new 02 model had a Black frame.

If I remember right the 5PW was the first injected one. Mine is an 03 5PW so I guess 02-03 model.

1998: Original Yamaha YZF-R1 launched.
2000: Revised Yamaha YZF-R1 has 150 changes – most noticeable sleeker tail unit and titanium exhaust.
2002: More changes to Yamaha YZF-R1 for less weight, more power, fuel injection and more environmentally friendly. Black frame and swing arm, letterbox tail light.

Ah ha! Someone in the market for the exact same bike as I am. A very late 2001 Carb model. Although that abortion on the ebay link can stay there!

I bought my 2001 model new in March 02 as an 02 plate. and loved every minute of it. Then sold it etc...now miss it etc....need it back...EXPENSE
