Hi,

I'm planning on taking my (newly acquired) Westfield to the track soon, and am pretty sure it's going to fail the dB limit (it's VERY LOUD). What are my options? Do I have to buy a repackable exhaust, or change it completely? Can I interchange cans fairly easily (i.e. put a quiet one on for track days)?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi again!

You can get decibel inserts which you stick into the exhaust to reduce the decibels (it will have some reduction in engine power).

Yeh, you do need to be careful with those inserts as they screw up the fuelling and as you say, lose power so not ideal really.

In all honesty the best thing to do is invest in the largest silencer you fit on there. Ive got a 7" x 29" silencer on mine (now R1 powered) from Simpsons near Slough. It cost over £200 but even with an open sausage air filter which is another source of noise (airbox is better for noise), Ive managed to get mind down to about 97db at ~7500rpm which is good enough for most days.

yes Agreed - it would be better with a different silencer.

I noticed that yours should unbolt reasonably easily (there's three clamps towards the front of the exhaust, and the bobbin at the back), so it'll be a matter of getting a different one - although you may need to either move the bobbin mounting point on the body, or get a bracket welded to the box if the bobbin ends up being in a different place.
