Late last night driving through Grays I noticed in my mirror some blue lights approaching, after pulling over I noticed the lights were still approaching but at more less walking pace then about a minute later a fire engine passed. Pulling out behind it I was then rather held up be at it’s rather leisurely pace I became amused as to why such a slow response at 1am on empty dry roads…..

All was soon answered, someone had torched a Gatso

Could be why the water fairies were taking their time. I'll forgive them on this occasion.

I guess they wanted to arrive just after the nick of time, lol.

Seriously though, how come you pulled over? Emergency services sometimes don't go that fast (though they still lane-hog in the case of ambulances!). I tend to keep going at my own pace until they're getting close enough that it's obvious I'm going to hold them up before pulling over. Sometimes they don't catch up at all.

I do that, and friends are sometimes horrified (mostly Ambulances), if I do notice them gaining decent ground, I drop a cog and find a decent place to pull over, but then usually still get stuck behind them.

Our old Transit used to be so slow that people would pull over for you, get bored, pull out and drive off into the distance never to be seen again, especially on hills.

Thankfully the new Sprinter is much faster, it just doesn't stop this time...

I don't think so -- which law?

I wouldn't have thought so, but if you were then to find yourself obstructing the vehicle you certainly ought to feel in the wrong about what you'd done.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I was under the impression that overtaking an emergency vehicle on a call is against the law (sure we had this debate on here a while back to do with EV's using the OSL of motorways?)

Got to be boocks, an Ambulance doing 30mph with a patient onboard will be overtaken.

It wouldn't surprise me, there's some daft laws about. For example, it's illegal to go more than 70mph on a public road even when there's nobody about to see it. Whatever next??!
