I have a problem with a PC running XP Pro. When windows boots it goes past the black screen with the XP logo until it opens the small box which says starting network connections, etc. After that it just restarts until it reaches the same point again, then restarts again. It will also do this in safe mode. The only way to get it to boot is to start from the last known good configuration. This only works once and if you try to restart it normally the next time, it just goes back into its loop again.

Any ideas?

Have you tried a system restore?

Did try that to the about the time it started happening but it didn't make any difference. As it's not my PC I can't be certain when it was as I'm just going on what I was told. I may try restoring it back more than a couple of months to be on the safe side.

use last known good config.

save all important stuff to another HDD if you have one and re-install windows.

Its usually worth the hassle, its like a spring clean

It may be an idea to start XP in safe mode, and uninstall any network drivers you have. If it works after that, go onto Windows Update, to see if it has any newer drivers for your networking hardware.
Worth a shot.
