oiltrash & 21TVR. I've been away for a while, so apologies for the inactivity.
I'm currently looking at a drive to Wells starting at Lacock where I though we might all meet up for a tea/coffee before starting on the Wilts section of the route. I have been advised by sidpinup that it should take about 1.5 hours or so, getting to Wells for lunchtime. So allowing for occasional reassembling stops I guess we're looking at 10-ish at Lacock for a brew, then getting going around 10.45. Does that sound reasonable?
Paul.

Paul,

Sounds like a plan. I'm overseas at the moment so can't run auto-route to see how long it would take us to get from our meeting point of Birdlip to Lacock - I guess an hour? I'll ask around and confirm the meet time.

Cheers

Hi Alex,
You should do Birdlip to Lacock in less than an hour (depending on your route), but I'd keep to an hour just to be on the safe side!

Just thought i'd let you guys know that it is also the RIAT on weekend of 19-20th July - The Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This means that all roads going into Fairford from miles around will be heaving with very slowly moving, or stopped traffic from about 06:00 till 12:00 and then on the way out from 17:30 onwards. To give you an idea they queue on the M4 at Junction 15 for about 1 mile or so!

This means that c3c will have to run down the West side of our patch and not go through Cirencester etc! If we then turn East along the M4 for Lacock I can see us running into stationery traffic at Junction 18, 17, 16, and 15

Maybe we should meet at the Puesdown and run south-east on B roads and cross into Wiltshire around the Hungerford area

...uuuuummmm! Thoughts ?

Hungerford - sounds a bit far east? Junc. 19 then A/B roads to meet up with Wilts???
I've never been in this neck of the woods when Fairford is busy, so I'll leave it to those that know.

Junction 18 is the A46 Bath/Stroud Road, this may be favourite as we could drop down from Birdlip and run thru Stroud area and then down the A46 - cross the M4 at J18 and then hack of East once South of the M4. The traffic is fine as long as you are intersecting it.

Simon, your suggestion of using the A46 would be fine. Once you have crossed the M4 at J18, carry on down the A46 and head East (small roundabout) on the A420 towards Chippenham. As you approach the town, follow the bypass (i.e. turn right onto the A350) which will eventually lead you right past Lacock.
An alternative route from Stroud would be to turn left at Avening, there's a nice twisty road into Tetbury, and head towards Malmesbury. After passing Malmesbury turn right onto the A429 towards J17 of the M4, and down towards Chippenham and onto Lacock.
Paul.

Paul this seems like a plan, we will decide on the day wether we come the A46/J18 or the Tetbury route

See you there

Hi Oiltrash,
Many thanks for boosting our convoy to G-o-t-G. I think there were 20 cars at Lacock - quite a sight. I wish I had thought of getting somebody to video our departure from The Red Lion!
Cheers,
Paul
