Autocar published news last week of a VXR8 that was heard testing with the 7L 500bhp LS7 engine and there are other articles about the new 440bhp LS3 engine which is out next year.

Has it been confirmed if the VXR8 for 2008 will feature either engine or if a new model will be added to the uk line up yet? The Ls7 option if reasonably priced would have me reaching for cheque book.

Now that'd be a VXR8 worth having!

I'd have thought the LS3 would appear for certain. I'd expect an LS7 engined car to be quite a bit more expensive though.

Indeed it would.
I've heard that there are two such vehicles in the U.K
Can't see why they'd be over here if there wasn't a serious chance that they'd be available to U.K buyers at some stage.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about the LS7 HSV (GTS-R?) IIRC there was talk of 100 cars for Aust & NZ only with a price around $130K?

The LS3 is already selling in the Corvette - 430hp without the exhaust - 436hp with.

I knew this'd happen - same with the Monaro VXR, got 5.7 then the 6.0.

Yeah, I read that. So I was surprised to hear that there were 2 LS7 engined cars in the U.K.

Dim question but are there LS4, LS5 & LS6 engines?

no....

base version was an LS1 (5.7L Monaro), this was superceded by 6L LS2 (VXR 2005) and will soon be 6.2L LS3 (current Vette)

the peformance verizon of an LS1 was an LS6 (2004 VXR) and the performance version of a LS2 is a LS7 (Performance Z-06 Vette) There is also a supercharged replacement for the LS7 on its way for the Vette (LS8??).

A Ls7 in a UK Monaro with 505bhp would be more interesting than current offering if it could be sold at £39,995.

Actually there is an LS6 it was in the C5 Z06 prior to the LS7, it had LS2 heads and a slightly larger cam.
Also its the same model number as the 1970 454 big block performance engine.

There is also an LS4 which is a 5.3L version of the Gen IV engine. Not that anyone would want that. Its in some FWD Impala's etc.

I put that in my post below, the 2004 VXR has a LS6 does it not?

No I dont think so. Its either the Calloway C4B in the GTS HSV Coupe or just your normal LS1 with LS6 intake in the GTO coupe.
The LS6 was LS6 intake AND LS2 heads plus a larger cam. I dont ever think HSV used an LS6 in anything, nor did Holden to my knowledge.

Yep.

Which is a good example of what a tune can do. When the Gen3 first came out in the 1999 SS Commodore it was 220kw or 300bhp it ended up 285kw (385bhp) in the 04 HSV.

You can see how this is all done here http://chipmaster.com.au/monaro.html

Hardware and tune differences. Tune, larger throttle body, Maf pipe, CAI and headers were std on 5.7VXR over CV8.
