As the thread title. Had new front and back tyres fitted on the bike today, and I know that I need to go easy on them for a while (which shouldn't be too tricky, as I'm still managing to corner while upright...!)

What sort of mileage do I need to get on them before I stop gripping the seat into a ridge with my arse? I'm still very much relearning everything, as I passed my test last July, but didn't get the bike until about a month ago.

I'd have asked in the shop, but they weren't very friendly, and they certainly won't be getting any future custom from me.

If you are riding in the dry, given the kind of speeds you'll probably be achieving, I wouldn't give it too much concern.

The general rule of thumb is about 100 miles but basically you just need to heat the tyres through properly. 20 mins on the motorway would pretty much sort them out.

Cheers.

At the speeds I'll be doing? Oh yes, always within the limit...

ANd I hate riding on motorways. Still, maybe needs must.

In dry conditions youcan scrub the tyre fairly quickly i.e. about 50 miles or so, but the key is to relax and get heat inthe tyre before giving it the berries.

Any tyre shop should give you the standard 'Take it easy for about 50 miles or so to scrub those new tyres in'....it's a bit shortsighted if they don't give this sort of advice, but having said that some people couldn't give a flying censored about giving one advice....

Let them warm up before any spirited riding and gradually increase your leaning until the tyre has that non-shiny scrubbed in look wink

That is surprising. Every tyre vendor I've been to recently has some standard print on the invoice warning of the running in required of new tyres. I'd imagine it was to avoid liability of a spill.

Dibble, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just get them warm - a higher average speed run will do that.
