Had some minor warranty work carried out at Sherwoods in Darlington, I can say that the service I got was first class. Ask for Mike the mechanic, he's a top bloke...
Anyway I drove from Cleveland down to Guildford the other day, it was the first long haul in the Monaro. I decided to see what fuel economy I could squeeze out of it. My average was 3o mpg!!!!60 to 70 mph..
Has anyboby had their car rust proofed? where and how much? still not had any input yet.
When I checked the performace data on the 05 CV8 the car is said to top 160 mph, can they really go that fast?

I get about 18mpg on my 30 - 40 mph commute over about 9 miles each way. Normally see about 22mpg on longer trips. Can also confirm what brilliant people Sherwoods are. I bought my car from them when no one else was interested in selling me one. Since then their after sales service has been excellent especailly when they helped get the GPS tracker re-programmed when I returned to the UK. Their attitude is a shining example for many prestige dealers to follow. I would use them for servicing and warranty work but I now live near Salisbury and Darlington is just a bit too far away!
I had seen a maximum of 27.4mpg in the year I've owned mine, then decided to "behave" when I brought the car from Ireland over to Scotland (stop off at mum's in Glasgow), down through England (stop off in Cambridge area) then to Dover, over on the ferry to Calais and then drive up through France/Belgium/Holland and finally into Aachen where I'm currently living, so all in all a lot of miles covered. I set the cruise control up at every available opportunity (60mph on main roads, 70-75mph on the long motorway stretches) and then similarly 120kph/140kph when I hit mainland europe on the drive up to Aachen.
When I reached Glasgow I was in the 26mpg region, by the time I got to Cambridge I was showing 29.8mpg, by Dover it was down to 29.2mpg, and astonished as I was when I flipped it from kph to mph just outside of Brussels (i.e. before the ring road which I hit at peak time unfortunately) it showed 30.4mpg, so for the first time in it's life it broke the 30mpg barrier. The Brussels ring road then dropped it back down into the high 28's as it took me the best part of an hour to get round and out the other side and on my way to the border with Holland...
By the time I turned the car off in Aachen the display read 29.6mpg, so all in all I was very impressed with just how well the car will do when I behave (ok so I had a few excursions included which is even better ha ha)

30 MPG Jeez, my best on a long run is about 23 (80-90 MPH) Cruise is nigh on impossible to use in this country, as nobody seems to be capable of driving at a consistant speed
Normally get around 20 on the daily commute, depending on traffic..
You'll go further on foreign petrol, I know of someone who has done a lot of touring around France (on a bike), and has accurately logged MPG's. Always the French 95RON returns better MPG. This would of course have nothing to do with the fact that our Government takes a vast income in fuel tax and so would have nothing to gain from the fuel companies selling us the better quality stuff, conspiracy theory, not me

I may add that I'm now running the German Super Plus bleifrei (unleaded 98RON) and seeing around the 18mpg marker for the day to day running about between the factories and the current room I'm calling home for the time being...back in Ireland it would have been in the 15-18 bracket week in week out for the running around...that was until I got my wee 1.3CDTI Corsa to use as the daily driver which seems to run on fumes more than anything else

Just recorded 24.2mpg in my VXR500 (I've said it again) over 609 miles with every type of road from stop start M/way to open dual and single track lanes. Incidently the Devon and Cornwall BIB are concentrating their road safety awareness on the A30 west of Exeter and A38 south to Plymouth with lots of new equipment. You've been warned!!
